Dead Taxi Driver Propped In Taxi Cab On Way To His Funeral

A 73-year-old Puerto Rican taxi cab driver made a dying wish that when he died, he wanted to be propped in the driver’s seat of his taxi cab with his hands locked to the steering wheel as if he was driving himself to his own funeral, according to Media World News.

After Victor Perez Cardona died of cancer earlier this month, his daughter honored his request. She made sure her father’s body was propped in the driver’s seat of his cab, just as he wanted. When people came to view the body, it was not in a coffin in a funeral parlor. Instead, it was in the same taxi cab Cardona had driven for 15 years in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico. A wreath of flowers was in the back seat of the taxi cab that was parked at the funeral home.

The Daily Mail reported that hundreds of Cardona’s friends, family, and fares attended his wake last Sunday. People came from all over the island. Some mourners even sat in the cab with the body, according to the cabbie’s daughter, Generosa Perez Torres.

Torres said that the bizarre sight attracted a large number of people, including members of funeral homes in the area.

“Many came to pay their respects.”

She carried out her father’s dying wish because he always liked a good joke. Besides, he had been so passionate about his profession that he had wished for his family and friends to honor his taxi cab driving even after his death.

Some people couldn’t believe how much Cardona looked as if he was alive. He was dressed and looked like he was ready to pick up his next fare.

“Mourners were permitted to take photos of Cardona as he sat propped in the cab.”

Cardona started off driving public buses before he became a taxi cab driver. He later became known throughout his town as “Vitín the driver.”

Cardona’s body was removed from his cab and taken to a chapel on Sunday night for the funeral, and he was buried on Monday.

It is not the first time a Puerto Rican has made a strange request for a viewing or funeral. Last year, the body of boxer Christopher Amaro, 23, was propped against the corner of a boxing ring in San Juan.

Have you ever attended a wake or funeral that you thought was strange? Do you have any strange requests that you want your family to carry out for you after your death?
