Garfunkel On Simon: Art Garfunkel ‘Created Monster’ To Compensate For Paul Simon Napoleon Complex

Art Garfunkel has a few choice words to say on the topic of Paul Simon. And they’re not exactly harmonious, because Garfunkel describes Simon as a monster, reported Billboard.

In particular, Art holds a grudge for how Simon & Garfunkel parted ways, and he makes it clear that “idiot” Paul is to blame. The split occurred just after “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” which seems odd to Art.

“It was very strange. Nothing I would have done. I want to open up about this. I don’t want to say any anti-Paul Simon things, but it seems very perverse to not enjoy the glory and walk away from it instead. Crazy. What I would have done is take a rest from Paul, because he was getting on my nerves. The jokes had run dry,” admitted Art.

However, although Garfunkel envisioned that “rest” as lasting a year, the act was over. And now Art is ready to question just why Simon abandoned their musical success.

“How can you walk away from this lucky place on top of the world, Paul? What’s going on with you, you idiot? How could you let that go, jerk?” said Art out loud in a conversation with an imaginary Simon.

Recalling how they began their relationship, Garfunkel linked to school. Art says he pitied Paul’s small stature. But by trying to compensate for what he viewed as Simon’s “Napoleon complex,” Garfunkel now feels he is responsible for the “monster” that resulted.

“That compensation gesture has created a monster,” said the musician of his former partner.

However, Art also clarified that he has lived his own life since he and Simon split, reported the Telegraph.

With two sons, Garfunkel has also had two wives. He acted, recorded, and hiked across both Europe and the United States. In addition, Art is an author of poems.

But Garfunkel studied mathematics rather than music at Columbia, and was a math in the 1970’s.

“I’m precise. I think in proportions. I play games with numbers and I proportionalise. I imagine we have now done 1/8th of our interview.”

However, Art also admits he’s a Luddite.

“I never bought a computer or a cell phone.”

And Garfunkel isn’t the only celebrity who’s made that confession.

As the Inquisitr reported, actor and director Woody Allen, despite having taken on doing a series for Amazon Prime that is completely Web-based, avoids the Internet and computers. Rather than a computer, Allen uses a manual typewriter.
