Bobby Brown Arrested For DUI in California

Don’t talk on your cellphones while driving kids- that’s one of the messages you can take away from Bobby Brown’s DUI arrest today.

The other, of course, is to not drink or do drugs and drive- which you totally shouldn’t do either. As you are probably aware, Bobby Brown is the former husband of late pop singer Whitney Houston, and the pair’s seemingly unhealthy relationship was often cited as a contributing problem in regards to Houston’s later drug problems. Brown has always been viewed as something of a bad boy and a negative influence on the once chart-topping Houston, whose career had fallen into seeming disrepair at the time of her death in a Beverly Hills hotel room.

Just last week, it was revealed that cocaine and alcohol as well as heart disease were possible factors in Houston’s bathtub death at the Beverly Hilton, and when the couple were married, their hard partying ways were chronicled on a VH1 reality show. It seems that the early death of Houston either greatly saddened Brown or failed to inhibit some potentially destructive behaviors.

Brown was pulled over at 12:20 PM today in Van Nuys, California, at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Wilbur. Although police initially stopped Brown for talking on a cellphone while driving, a field sobriety test was administered to the singer at the scene, Officer Mike Harris of the California Highway Patrol confirmed to Access Hollywood. The entertainment site says that Brown was then arrested and released:

“The New Edition singer allegedly failed the sobriety test and was taken to the Van Nuys jail where he was charged and booked for suspicion of DUI… Responding to a request for comment from Access Hollywood on Monday afternoon, Brown’s manager told Access that the singer had been released from jail and was home following the incident.”

Bobby Brown’s rep declined further comment on the incident, and the singer is expected to appear in court on April 20th.
