Mike Huckabee Stands By Duggar Family In Wake Of Josh Duggar’s Molestation Confession

Mike Huckabee came out Friday in full support of the Duggar family, stars of 19 Kids and Counting, after oldest son Josh Duggar admitted to molesting underage girls, including his sisters, as a teenager. The former Arkansas governor says there is no reason to go after the family now.

In a Facebook post Friday, Mike Huckabee said there is no need to try to discredit the Duggar family since the issue was dealt with when Josh Duggar admitted the molestation to his parents years ago.

“He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things. The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today’s blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one’s judgement is not mature.”

The former governor goes further to imply that Josh Duggar “confessing his sins” as a teenager and going on to become a responsible adult lends credence to the family’s “authenticity and humility.” Revealing that Josh Duggar sexually molested underage girls, Mike Huckabee says, only hurts the victims in this case.

“No one needs to defend Josh’s actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he harmed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family’s authenticity and humility. Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims.”

According to People, Mike Huckabee has known the Duggar family, and has been especially close to Josh Duggar, since the 1990s when father Jim Bob Duggar was in the Arkansas legislature. The Duggars campaigned for the former governor’s 2008 presidential bid and earlier this month publicly endorsed Huckabee in his 2016 run via Facebook.

While the former governor may be standing by the Duggars, other public figures are not. As the Inquisitr previously reported, talk show host Montel Williams took to Twitter Thursday to call Josh Duggar out for being a “hypocrite” and a “scumbag.” Mama June Shannon of TLC’s cancelled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo threatened Thursday to sue the network if it did not take the Duggars’ show off the air.
