‘Destiny’: Xur’s Exotic Goods For Weekend Of May 22, ‘House Of Wolves’ Starter Kit

The release of “House of Wolves” brings an all-new Xûr, Agent of the Nine, to Destiny players on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Or, does it? The mysterious Exotic gear vendor has found a brand new spot to sell his wares, but they aren’t exactly new and shiny. However, there is still enough here to give Guardians a level boost for the new expansion though.

This week’s hiding spot for Xûr is in the Reef social area. You’ll want to turn right from the spawn point, head down the stairs past the Bounty vendor and then go in the first door to the right of the bottom of the stairs. Go in the door and the Agent of the Nine is tucked away in a corner on the right.

Destiny Reef Door (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

Xûr and his items will only be available in Destiny through the morning of Sunday, May 17. As soon as the clock strikes 5 a.m. ET / 2 a.m. PT, he will be gone.

The release of “House of Wolves” creates a new set of maximum stat values for the various armor pieces. Here is what Planet Destiny has been able to determine the new max stat rolls are for each piece.

  • Helmet – 149
  • Chest – 197
  • Gauntlets – 132
  • Boots – 181

Unfortunately, this makes what is an unexciting selection of Exotics even less exciting. There’s not a single new armor piece or weapon from “House of Wolves” being offered. On top of that, none of the three armor pieces are what you’d call top tier, and only one has an above average stat roll. The Last Word does return for those who weren’t able to pick up the Hand Cannon last time though.

You can take a chance with the Exotic Engram this week if you’re unhappy with the Exotic armor on sale. It’s for a helmet, but you are just as likely to get an older piece instead of something from the new Destiny expansion.

The release of “House of Wolves” to Destiny also takes away Xûr’s rotating inventory of upgrades that was introduced in “The Dark Below.” You can still upgrade any Exotic piece of armor or weapon by purchasing an Exotic Shard and ascending it to the new power levels. That may be the play this week unless you are a brand new Guardian looking to score gear.

Here is what is available for sale and upgrade from Xûr this weekend. Thanks again to DestinyDB for the Exotic information below.

For those wondering what to get, here are a few helpful hints.

Destiny - The Last Word (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

The Last Word has a slight learning curve to use it, but it is easily one of the top tier PVP weapons even if it doesn’t have much usefulness in PVE. The Hand Cannon is able to fire quickly and continuously thanks to the Fan Fire perk. Combine that with all of the bonus accuracy perks from Hip Fire, Perfect Balance, and Last Word and you have a dangerous weapon that can be fired while aiming down the sights or from the hip.

Destiny - No Backup Plans (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

No Backup Plans are the only Exotic gauntlets currently available to Guardians and are geared toward the Defender sub-class. They provide a big boost in strength while the Rain Blows perks increases melee speed. Meanwhile, the Improved Disintegrate perk will increase the duration of the Force Barrier that pops over you after you punch that Warlock into oblivion.

The 111 Strength stat roll for the No Backup Plans may be just two lower than the old maximum, but they are on the average side for the new “House of Wolves” maximums. Helm of Saint-14 is still the go to Exotic armor for the Defender sub-class while Armamentarium and Ruin Wings are also suitable alternatives.

Destiny Radiant Dance Machines Hunter Boots (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

Radiant Dance Machines are a pair of groovy looking Hunter boots and the only Exotic pair currently available. They can be worn by either sub-classes and allow Hunters to move quicker while aiming thanks to The Dance perk. This is most useful in PVP, where strafing and quick movements can mean the difference between killing and being killed.

Again, the 144 Strength stat roll for Radiant Dance Machines would have been slightly above average under the old maxium for boots at 156. Now they are decidedly average, so save your Strange Coins unless you want to replace an older pair of boots.

Destiny Starfire Protocol Warlock Chest (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

The Starfire Protocol chest armor for Warlocks is meant for the Sunsinger sub-class thanks to the Starfire Protocol perk. It allows for an additional Fusion grenade. However, this does not stack with the Gift of the Sun perk, so you can still only max out at two. What it does allow is for you to select either the Angel of Light or Touch of Flame perks instead. It also allows you to carry extra Fusion Rifle and Heavy Weapon ammo.

The 175 Intellect stat on this chest piece puts it over the old maximum and makes it slightly above average with the new maximum stat rolls. If you are looking to replace an older armor piece or want to buy a brand new one, this is your best bet for the week.
