Do you believe in life after 21? Cher sure does. She turns 69 today, May 20. And birthday aside, there are so many reasons why this diva is so adored the world over, according to a People report.
Cher, birth name Cherilyn Sarkisian, is celebrating her 69th birthday, and many agree: like her music is timeless, her looks are ageless. She took the world by storm in 1965 when she and her late husband, Sonny Bono, released their hit single, “I Got You Babe,” on Atco’s record label. The song is off their debut album, Look At Us. From that moment, she never looked back.
She tantalized the world with her enchanting looks, hour-glass figure, sultry voice, and wit. Over her 69 years, Cher has endured ups and downs, loss, cycles in her music, and controversy from her son’s, Chaz’s, transitioning. On the latter, she did what any doting mom would have done, and provided unconditional support.
On being 69-years-young, there are countless reasons to tip your hat to Cher: she’s easy on the eyes and she is the only performer to earn “top 10” music singles in four straight decades. In her acting roles, she and the venerable Barbra Streisand are the only two Best Actress Academy Award-winning actresses to have No. 1 singles on the Billboard charts. She also has dyslexia, but never let that stop her from following her dream of singing, and wore braces as an adult.
