Newark Police Officers Give Out Free Hugs [Video]

Officers with the Newark Police Department in Delaware started a viral trend just by offering free hugs to anyone who wanted (or needed) one. According to WFSB, several people in the area were happy to get some love from the boys in blue, and video of some of these moments has gone viral.

“Cpl. James Spadola and Officer Aaron Olicker stood along Main Street and held up signs that read ‘Free hugs’ and included the Twitter hashtag #HugACop.”

According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, the officers wanted to do something positive within their community. For many, it was nice to see something involving police officers bonding with people given the amount of fighting there has been in the country over the past several months.

“I just wanted to come up with a positive time between the police and the citizens,” explained Cpl. Spadola.

Back in November, a moving photo of a police officer hugging a 12-year-old in Ferguson went viral. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, thousands of people “liked” the photo on social media and appreciated the message of light during such a dark time.
