Katie Crank’s ‘When You Say Nothing At All’: Still Singing To Moms Of Boys Everywhere [Video]

Katie Crank said she filmed her rendition of “When You Say Nothing At All” when she was overwhelmed with motherhood one day. It seems as though, not long after Mothers’ Day, it makes its way around the internet again, and 2015 is no exception.

“When You Say Nothing At All” was written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz at the end of what they considered to be an unproductive day, reportedly. In 2012, Overstreet said it was probably his most recorded song. RCA released the version by Keith Whitley, and it was a hit sensation. Later, Alison Krauss recorded “When You Say Nothing at All” as part of a Keith Whitley tribute album. Many artists have covered the song, but Katie Crank’s version, viewed almost 2 million times, has been embraced by moms across the country.

Recently, the video of Katie Crank singing her amusing and beautiful rendition of “When You Say Nothing At All” was picked up by Kids Activities Blog.

“This mother was feeling a bit stressed having to manage four energetic young boys, so she vents her feelings about it in a totally unique way. As her sons brawl in the background, she gives us a creative performance that mothers everywhere can relate to. And just wait until you see the surprise at the end! It’s both hilarious and sweet at the same time.”

Now, Crank’s version is circulating again, just after Mothers’ Day, on schedule, with special lyrics that are almost as timeless as motherhood.

“It’s amazing how you can destroy everything,” Katie Crank, who currently performs in Refined, sings. “The mess that you made is just normal for four little boys!”

People accused Katie of making her boys act out in the background for the benefit of her music video, but she says on her blog post about the song that that’s not how it happened at all. She says all it took to make her boys jump into action was to tell them that she was going to sing for the camera and ask them to play quietly. Crank says that the reason she was able to stay calm while singing is because she was giddy about a date night that would be happening later that evening.

“The day we made the video I was extremely giddy because we were leaving the boys with a babysitter and going on a double date with our friends….(which is why I probably look so calm…because I knew that in a few short hours….FREEDOM!!! lol… I sang all the way through it and well….what you see is what you get. I could see the boys through the camera and the next thing I know their ‘boyness’ kicked in and they are shirtless and tossing each other all over the place.”

Can you relate to Katie Crank’s version of the popular country song?
