Marth Amiibo Restock Appears On Amazon, May Be Online Exclusive

Nintendo has given amiibo collectors with a restock for one of the hardest to find characters, Marth of the Super Smash Bros. amiibo series. Originally announced for a late April release, then pushed back to sometime in May, fans have speculated that Marth would reappear on store shelves on May 29 with the rest of the Wave 4 amiibo product launch. However, it seems the re-release has already begun… and the hunt is on.

Beginning Mother’s Day weekend, the Marth amiibo became available on amazon.com. Collectors on Reddit have reported successful purchases as the amiibo has continued popping up on Amazon at its suggested retail price of $12.99 USD. Stock typically sells out quickly and reappears several hours later. Veteran amiibo hunters on Reddit suggest being signed in and having all billing and shipping information filled out to enable the 1-Click Check Out option. For faster refreshing, they also suggest using a following dedicated product listing, which sorts the Marth amiibo figure listings by price and condition (new).

Although sales of the Marth amiibo have continued on Amazon for days, no official announcement has been made to confirm the restock is officially underway. On May 4, Nintendo apologized for the amiibo shortages, promising fans they would improve not just amiibo availability but also communication involving product availability.

“As our library of amiibo continues to grow, some figures will be easier to find than others. We are constantly looking for the opportunity to reissue amiibo and are already making plans to bring back some currently out-of-stock amiibo figures. Stay tuned for details.

Nintendo plans to make it easier for consumers to know when new amiibo are on the way, through Nintendo press announcements, timely updates on our social media channels and working closely with retailers.”

It is quite possible that Amazon is not one of the retailers Nintendo will be working closely with as part of this improvement. So far, most of Nintendo’s social media posts have focused on the May 29 release of Splatoon for the Wii U. The above statement is the most recent amiibo news provided by Nintendo to date.

Regarding other retailers, the Marth amiibo may not even hit store shelves. At Target, according to leaked inventory information reported by Reddit moderator FlapSnapple, about 4,000 Marth figures have been ordered for the nationwide retailer. The sales of those figures are currently listed as “web only” and Marth is considered “discontinued” in store. No release date is listed for the Marth amiibo, while the release date for the remainder of the Wave 4 amiibo is listed as May 29. While it does not appear likely for Marth to get shipped out to Target stores across the US given this information, it certainly is possible. Nothing is official at this point.
