Move Over ‘Star Wars Battlefront,’ ‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ Hopes To Build A Better Battle For Hoth

The battle for the ice planet Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back has always been one of the most iconic scenes from the Star Wars franchise that has been recreated numerous times for many different video games. The snowy setting has always provided one of the most popular maps in the Star Wars Battlefront series. However, while the famous battle will once again be returning in the upcoming reboot of the Battlefront franchise later this year, gamers will also soon be able to visit Hoth inside another title, as the frozen world has been confirmed to be featured in Disney Infinity 3.0.

With the last installment of the Disney Infinity series, Disney added characters from the Marvel universe to the popular series. Following Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars intellectual property along with Lucasfilm, it was recently confirmed that Disney Infinity 3.0 would be bringing the world of Star Wars into the mix. With Disney Infinity 3.0, fans will see several characters and locations from the Star Wars franchise featured within new play sets as well as inside the game’s toy box.

In addition to including characters from various Star Wars films and cartoons, Disney Infinity 3.0 will also feature dynamic gameplay levels based on classic events, such as the Hoth battle. However, while Disney Infinity 3.0 may have a child-like art style, the developers are actually implementing some fairly advanced mechanics for the upcoming title, as Game Informer reports.

For example, the studio has given independent physics to the legs of the iconic AT-AT walkers on Hoth. This allows the vehicles within Disney Infinity 3.0 to actually adapt to the terrain and rebalance themselves on inclines or after heavy impacts. These advanced mechanics were designed so that players can actually take control of the AT-AT walkers or the smaller AT-ST vehicles. In fact, players will be able to turn the massive walkers in Disney Infinity 3.0, which will mark the first time that a game doesn’t merely feature the AT-ATs walking on tracks.

Besides giving users the ability to take control of the various vehicles that took part in the battle for Hoth, Disney Infinity 3.0 will also give fans several options for taking down the gigantic AT-ATs. The game will feature multiple tactics for dismantling the walkers that range from tripping the vehicles using tow cables, as was done in The Empire Strikes Back, to climbing up the legs of the massive four-legged tanks to get up close to the vehicle’s main body in order to make the killing blow. Of course, as Game Informer later discussed in a separate article, there will be several different play sets based on a variety of events throughout the original and prequel trilogies. This means that players can expect to relive other popular Star Wars moments besides just the battle of Hoth.

Are you excited for the opportunity to see the popular sci-fi universe added to Disney Infinity 3.0, or do you plan to get all your Star Wars gaming kicks from DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront?
