Five Biblical Names For Boys And One Biblical Name For Girls Made The Top Ten List For 2014


It is always interesting to see which baby names made the list for being the most popular. According to the Social Security Administration, the list of baby names for 2014 has been published. Interestingly, there are five biblical names for boys and only one biblical name for girls.

Every year, there are many biblical names on the entire list. Out of the top ten popular names for boys, half of the names are from the Bible. Out of the top ten names for girls, there is only one name from the Bible.

The Social Security Administration released the 10 most popular baby names for 2014, with 19,144 newborn boys being named Noah, and 20,799 of all newborn girls being named Emma. Both of the names have remained on the list throughout the years, with Emma appearing on the top 5 list for girls every year since 2002, and Noah on the top 5 boys list each year since 2011.

The name Charlotte just did make the list, coming in at No. 10. This is the first time Charlotte has been on the list, but it will probably go to the top of the list for girl names next year because Charlotte is the name given to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s new daughter, who was born on May 2.

Topping the list for boys’ names is Noah, according to Time magazine. In the Bible, Noah was the just man God selected to build the ark at a time when it didn’t rain from above. Noah was obedient even though people laughed at him, and no one helped. Only Noah and his family were saved when the flood came. The story of Noah is found in Genesis 6-9.

Jacob occupies the fourth spot on the list. Jacob was a twin born to Isaac and Rebekah. He was not the first born, but he goes down in biblical history for being more aggressive than his twin brother Esau, who sold Jacob his inheritance. Jacob had 12 sons who became the tribes of Israel. The story of Jacob is in found in the book of Genesis.

Michael landed in the No. 7 spot. Michael was an archangel, and he is mentioned three times in the book of Daniel. The ninth position belongs to James, who was a brother of Jesus. James wrote the book of James in the Bible.

The tenth name on the list is Daniel. Daniel was a major prophet in the Bible, who is well-known for being in the lion’s den without getting harmed. There is an entire book in the Bible surrounding the story of Daniel.

The only biblical name for a girl on the list is Abigail, which ends up in the eighth position. Abigail was one of King David’s wives. He married her because she took the initiative to right a wrong her husband had done to him. Her husband died, and David married her. The story of Abigail can be found in 1 Samuel 25.
