Khloe Kardashian is on a mission to become the Kardashian with the craziest curves, and she’s well on her way to achieving her goal. However, she’s not just relying on good ol’ fashioned exercise to whittle down her waist — she’s also wearing an old fashioned undergarment that drastically changes the shape of her body.
In the Instagram post below, Khloe Kardashian shows off the results of all her hard work at the gym. However, she’s sort of cheating when it comes to her tummy — the “waist trainer” she’s wearing is squeezing everything in and giving her an extreme hourglass shape.
It appears as though Khloe has actually started working out in her heavy-duty corset, but it’s not the real catalyst behind her slimmer figure and 20 pound weight loss — as Us Weekly points out, Khloe has confessed that she’s a bit of a gym rat. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians told People that she works out five days a week with a human trainer (as opposed to her waist trainer in the photo above), and she creates her own workouts on the weekend. She also practices portion control and tries to drink five liters of water a day.
During numerous interviews, Khloe has made it clear that she credits her healthier, more active lifestyle for her new look. So why does she keep wearing that waist trainer?
Khloe mentioned the brand of her waist trainer in her Instagram caption, so there’s a high likelihood that it was a paid promotional post. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Kim Kardashian has praised the same waist trainer, and it looks like she and her sister are making these modernized versions of the corset into must-have items. Some companies that sell the shapewear have reported huge spikes in sales numbers, and more and more celebrities have started using them. Other famous fans include Jenni “JWOWW” Farley and Kim Zolciak.
Celebrity endorsements can help any product sell, but the waist trainer has something else going for it — it provides immediate results. Unfortunately, much like the Kylie Jenner lip challenge, the desired results are only temporary, and there are risks involved.
Allure asked Dr. Orly Avitzur, a Consumer Reports medical adviser, to list a few of the side effects of waist training, and he said that waist trainers can cause nerve damage, skin problems, and tummy troubles.
“They include damaging a nerve in the groin, which can cause a condition called meralgia paresthetica in which there may be painful burning and tingling of the thigh… Tight, constrictive garments have also been implicated in contact dermatitis and recurrent abdominal pain, possibly due to constriction of the bowels.”
Khloe Kardashian may also be doing herself more harm than good by working out in a waist trainer. During an episode of the The Doctors, ER physician Dr. Travis Stork stated that exercising in one of the garments is not a smart way to get a six pack.
“It doesn’t help you lose weight. If anything, if you wear it too tight, you’re not allowing your body’s natural core musculature to develop.”
Waist trainers can also restrict breathing, so maybe the next big trend will be fainting couches. Unfortunately, you can’t do much exercising if you’ve passed out.
If you’re looking for a safer way to work on your core, you might want to try one of Khloe Kardashian’s favorite exercises — according to Hollywood Life, she loves using a Hula Hoop. Hooping is a ton of fun, and it will tone your tummy instead of simply squeezing it in. The toy might make working out feel less work and more like play, and you can use it while watching TV. According to OK! Magazine, Khloe also squeezes in mini-workouts by doing crunches and leg lifts while she catches up on her favorite shows.
Do you think celebrities like Khloe Kardashian need to stop trying to convince their fans that waist trainers are effective fitness tools when their weight loss is actually the result of working out and eating right?
