WWE News: Pop Star Justin Bieber Considered For Main Event At WWE SummerSlam?

In one of the craziest stories in some time, it appears that WWE is trying to once again cross over into pop culture. This time around, the person they are trying to bring in might be one of the most controversial people in the world today. That person is pop star Justin Bieber. I know what everyone is thinking here. Why in the world would WWE ever consider bringing in Justin Bieber knowing that the fans would go completely crazy and boo him until he cried?

The idea was to make a moment, it seems. One that would stand out and get coverage for WWE outside of the wrestling world. WWE always loves to cross over into pop culture, so having one of the most popular figures in the world take part in a major program on a top event would be ideal in theory. WWE almost made this happen as well, and who knows if it will indeed be discussed again.

Former WWE creative team writer Kevin Eck spoke about how WWE discussed bringing in Justin Bieber for WWE SummerSlam last year. Bieber seemed to want to take part, which is what surprised many in the first place. Here is what Eck had to say about how it would have happened and the story to go along with it that was discussed in creative.

“The proposed match was discussed among the booking team (which I was on) about five months before SummerSlam, but a deal with Bieber never came to fruition. I’m not sure how close it was to actually happening.”

“My concern at the time was that Cena teaming up with Bieber — who was making headlines for all the wrong reasons and most definitely would have been booed unmercifully by the WWE audience — would not have done Cena, the face of the company, any favors. To address that concern, the creative suggestion was that Cena would become increasingly annoyed by Bieber in the weeks leading up to the match, but Big Show, who would be portrayed as Bieber’s friend, would repeatedly play peacemaker.”

“After the babyfaces went over in the match, Bieber would be so obnoxious in trying to take credit for the win that Cena would hit the Attitude Adjustment on him for a big pop. Another point that was raised when discussing the potential match was whether it would have been a bad PR move for WWE to do business with Bieber. The feeling from the powers that be was that if Mayweather liked him, then Bieber must be OK.”

HHH, Bieber

I mean, if Floyd Mayweather, a known womanizer who has domestic violence charges against him likes Beiber….he must be okay, right? If you can’t trust Floyd, who can you trust?

Floyd clearly was the one who made this decision worth going for of course. While Triple H is good friends with Mayweather, Floyd is a known moron who has had many issues in his past. This obviously helps he and Bieber fit perfectly as a duo. In fact, the two would be the biggest heels in pro-wrestling if they teamed together.

You’d beg to see them get hurt just because. Of course, Mayweather might dance around and hug too much before that occurred for him, but who knows right?

The idea of adding Justin Bieber did have merit in theory. Bringing him in would bring eyeballs to WWE, clearly. However, it wouldn’t have been good for Cena or Big Show because they were babyfaces and Bieber just doesn’t fit that role well these days. So, the additional stick at the end to have Cena deliver an Attitude Adjustment would be perfect and quite apropos if they were able to make this match happen.

In the end, the match never happened. Most likely due to what Eck said above, bad PR. However, this is the same company that one brought in Kevin Federline. So, can we really expect them to go totally clean and not bring in controversial figures? That said, Justin Bieber and WWE could still very well work together in the future. In what way however, is unknown at this time.
