Sen’Derrick Marks Prom Offer: NFL Player Gives Teen With Cancer A Night To Remember
Sen’Derrick Marks’ prom outing over the weekend has impressed football fans all around the country. This was no ordinary prom, however. The Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle asked Khameyea Jennings to the outing, and it was quite the date.
Jennings, 18, has been fighting liver cancer for the past two years. Marks, 28, wanted to give her an amazing night away from the hospital and it seems he succeeded. According to Sporting News, Sen’Derrick Marks’ prom outing began with a surprise visit to Jennings’ hospital room just a few days before the event.
As Jacksonville shares, the big outing came via the Dreams Come True of Jacksonville organization. They approached the Jaguar player with the idea, and from there Sen’Derrick Marks’ prom plans grew.
The “promposal” was coordinated with Khameyea’s mother, and Marks says that this was the kind of charity opportunity that is right up his alley. He says he is picky about what charity outings he agrees to do, as he wants to really make a difference in someone’s life.
Khameyea was diagnosed with cancer on Mother’s Day in 2013, but she managed to graduate high school early by studying from her hospital room. The family lost Khameyea’s grandmother, who helped raise the teen, to pancreatic cancer in March, so it’s been a very difficult time for the Jennings family. The teen’s mother wanted her to have a day to just feel normal and get away from the cancer battle.
Originally, Jennings was going to go to the prom with her younger sister. However, Sen’Derrick Marks’ prom offer was just too great an opportunity. She admitted that she doesn’t follow sports all that much, but she likes him.
Marks dressed just as Jennings asked, in gold and white, and picked her up in his Lambourghini. They posed for pictures at the event, which was held at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, then she settled into a wheelchair with Marks’ jacket over her shoulders.
Classmates from Jennings’ school, the Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology, cheered the couple on as they entered the event. It may have been a bit of an overwhelming scenario, but Khameyea was seen wearing a big smile. From the looks of things, the day that Khameyea Jennings hoped would allow her to feel just a bit normal turned into a night of feeling like a princess thanks to Sen’Derrick Marks’ prom plans.
