James Franco Joins Nick at Nite Soap

According to reports it looks like actor and professional student James Franco will grace the soap world again! Franco is said to join the telenovela based soap Hollywood Heights.

The show, previously named Reach for the Stars follows a Mexican girl who enters the pop star life after winning a songwriting competition. While she’s immersed in the celebrity life, the girl makes friends with a super rock-star — who is of course her biggest celebrity crush as well.

It is not certain the extent of James Franco’s role but it is said that his character will have a multi-episode arc on the show when it debuts in June. Franco is of course famous for shooting quadruple the amount of pages that a usual episode on a soap produces, so it’s unclear how much time this will take out of his busy grad. schedule.

With the consistent cancellation of staple decade long soaps like All My Children and One Life to Live, it’s surprising that Nick at Nite is willing to take on a soap. However, what isn’t surprising is James Franco’s involvement in the debut of the soap opera. The polymath actor made his soap debut in 2009 on General Hospital, which lasted for two years and saw the actor stretch his real life daily activities into his character’s world, such as playing up his Oscar hosting gig, presenting his own works of art at MOCA for an episode arc, and of course the character’s Franco pseudonym.

Perhaps he will introduce new soap audiences to his Port Charles alter ego Franco?
