The ‘Duck Dynasty’ Musical Made Willie Robertson ‘Emotional’

Just when you thought the Duck Dynasty regime was over, there’s a Duck Dynasty musical to fill the void. The latest project is called Duck Commander Musical: How Faith, Family and Ducks Built a Dynasty.

This musical is not a parody, but rather a very serious drama on how the Duck Dynasty members rose to riches. Willie Robertson spoke to Us magazine about the Duck Dynasty musical, and admitted that it made him emotional.

“It’s pretty surreal, especially when you see your life play out onstage. It’s emotional for us every time we watch it.”

Right now, the musical isn’t on Broadway, but according to the Washington Post it should be. Right now it’s playing in Las Vegas at the Rio, but the “strangely mesmerizing” show received a good review from the outlet.

“The plot runs as follows. At first, there is no conflict whatsoever. The Real Robertson Family from TV’s “Duck Dynasty” greet us in projected form. They are watching the musical with popcorn, because watching musicals with popcorn is something that people do. They urge us to tweet and take pictures but not let our flashes go off.”

Here’s the real buzz factor that fans of the Duck Dynasty clan will want to know about. “If you have ever wanted to watch Phil Robertson sing a plaintive ballad about how to construct a duck call — “with that low buzz that makes the drakes go crazy” — you will not be disappointed.”

That said, the musical didn’t fare too well with the Hollywood Reporter.

“You don’t have to be a barber to love Sweeney Todd, or a nun to enjoy The Sound of Music. But it probably helps to be a — pardon the term — redneck to endure the 90 months, er minutes, of Duck Commander Musical, a love letter to simple folk with a penchant for guns, God and facial hair. What might have been a campy and hilarious look at some good ole boys who hit it big turns out to be a paean to religion and family. With fart jokes.”

We haven’t heard much from the Robertson family. As you probably remember, A&E suspended Phil Robertson from the reality television show after he made controversial anti-gay comments in a GQ interview.

At the time, Robertson said, “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men…”

The golden ratings that A&E experienced in the earlier seasons never fully returned.
