WWE News: Updated Card And Rumored Matches For ‘Payback’ — Two Confirmed, Many Rumored

Extreme Rules has already come and gone, and it really wasn’t that bad of a Pay-Per-View overall. There were a number of rematches from WrestleMania 31, and it’s officially time to move on to Payback. Well, there are two matches already confirmed, with one being yet another straight rematch and the main event being close to another rematch, but the rumors look good at least.

On Monday Night Raw, it was confirmed that John Cena and Rusev would be battling it out for a fourth straight time when Payback comes around on May 17. WWE has confirmed that it will indeed be an “I Quit” Match, which means the STFU versus the Accolade.

Rusev won the first battle, and Cena has won the last two by clean decision. Those losses haven’t been too bad for Rusev, but a third straight loss by “The Bull” could really hurt him and make him look a lot weaker than he has been built up.

The only other confirmed match so far for Payback is the main event. Kane announced on Raw that the WWE Universe voted to have Seth Rollins defend his WWE World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton and Roman Reigns in a triple threat.

Fans already weren’t too thrilled with the steel cage main event between Rollins and Orton at Extreme Rules, which was very slow and plodding. The fans still aren’t totally thrilled with Roman Reigns since WrestleMania 31, so it will be interesting to see how it is received.

Now, there are a few matches that are rumored following Sunday night’s events and what happened on Raw. WrestleZone reports that the three following matches are possibly going to end up on the Payback card.

Bray Wyatt vs. Ryback

On Raw, Ryback beat down Bo Dallas and was then taunted and attacked by Bray Wyatt and sets up their feud. In an interesting note, Wyatt did go out and save his real-life brother Bo Dallas from a further beat down, and it adds fuel to the rumors that a new Wyatt Family could be in the works.

WWE Diva’s Championship: Naomi vs. Nikki Bella

Yet another rematch that will likely end up on the Payback card. The first match wasn’t too bad, but right now, the Diva’s division is rather dead without AJ Lee or Paige.

Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler

The feud has been building ever since Sheamus returned with a new look and as a heel. At Extreme Rules, Ziggler pulled off a bit of a surprise victory, but Sheamus still absolutely decimated him, and the feud will go on.

Other rumors have a Tag Team Title match on the card and possibly an Intercontinental Title match. The latter depends on how healthy Daniel Bryan is and the assessment of his status over the next couple of weeks.

Payback is only a few weeks away so the build had to begin now, and it truly has. Two matches are set and in place while at least three others are rumored, and more are on the way. WWE is setting things up and still looking to get a few names over with the fans. They just need to hope it doesn’t backfire on them.
