Mama June has come out as bisexual, an announcement she made after her 15-year-old daughter, Pumpkin, announced that she was attracted to both men and women. The coming out discussion occurred during an interview that initially was planned to provide Mama June with the opportunity to show her support for Pumpkin rather than turning it into an opportunity for her to publicize her own sexuality, reported the Huffington Post.
Now known as Mama June by the public and media, after the success of the show starring her youngest daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, the lead character in the now-cancelled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, June Shannon and Pumpkin (whose real name is Lauryn Thompson) made the revelations during an Inside Edition interview.
“I’m attracted to females, and I’m attracted to males,” clarified Pumpkin. “You cannot hide who you truly are.”
Then, rather than become involved in a discussion of terms such as bisexual, Pumpkin dropped an unexpected bombshell into the interview.
“She is gay, too! June is gay, too!” declared the 15-year-old.
However, Mama June described herself as bisexual. She also insisted that she never had a formal relationship with a woman.
“I played in the minors but never went pro,” she joked.
As for their future relationship plans, Pumpkin hopes to renew her romance with a former girlfriend. Mama June currently is separated from Mike Thompson (“Sugar Bear”), who is Honey Boo Boo’s father.
While these revelations were new, Honey Boo Boo’s uncle, Lee “Uncle Poodle” Thompson, is a gay activist and has been active in the LGBT community.
Although that interview attracted some positive publicity for Mama June, she was attacked during an appearance on The Doctors when the TV talk show physicians did a follow-up to their obesity intervention for her chubby nine-year-old daughter Honey Boo Boo, reported Entertainment Tonight.
When nutritionist Jeanne McDaniel and The Doctors co-host Dr. Rachael Ross visited June’s home, they expressed dismay at what they saw.
“There are a lot of meals that have been left over from some weeks that just can make you wonder if she’s snacking on other items — especially at school,” criticized Jeanne.
When the show began its weight loss intervention, Honey Boo Boo weighed 125 pounds. At four feet, six inches tall, Honey Boo Boo needed to lose 12 to 25 pounds to avoid her heightened risk for obesity-related conditions ranging from diabetes to hypertension, warned The Doctors.
But Jeanne contended that it appeared Mama June had not helped her daughter.
“It appears that Alana is just kind of doing this on her own right now,” Jeanne declared.
As the Inquisitr reported, Honey Boo Boo revealed that she adores fried Oreos and everything deep-fried during her first appearance on The Doctors.
“Honey Boo Boo has way too much sugar,” lectured Dr. Travis. “Way too much processed foods in the house and that’s what’s got to stop.”
But although the talk show physicians tried to persuade Mama June to toss out the junk food, subsequent check-ins indicted that she didn’t view foods such as sugary yogurt as junk.
