Maksim Chmerkovskiy And Meryl Davis Returning To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Maksim Chermkovskiy and Meryl Davis are returning to Dancing with the Stars to show the remaining Season 20 celebrities and pros how you win a mirrorball trophy.

People reports that Dancing with the Stars has invited some of its best competitors back for the show’s 10th anniversary special. On April 28, DWTS fans will get to experience the magic that Maksim Chermkovskiy and Meryl Davis create each time they step out on a dance floor together.

According to TV Guide, Maks and Meryl have the show’s highest average season score, so perhaps the Season 20 competitors can learn a few things by watching the dynamic duo dance together again.

Maksim Chmerkovsky and Meryl Davis aren’t the only winners who will perform on the Dancing with the Stars special next Tuesday. Three of Derek Hough’s celebrity partners will return: Amy Purdy, Amber Riley, and Maria Menounos. Mark Ballas’ returning winning partners are Kristi Yamaguchi and Chelsea Kane. Other celebrity champs appearing include Kelly Monaco, whose pro partner was Alec Mazo, and Dancing with the Stars: All Stars winner Melissa Rycroft. Melissa danced with Suzanne Somers’ eliminated partner, Tony Dovolani.

The male celebrity winners slated to attend the anniversary special include Witney Carson’s Season 19 partner, Alfonso Ribeiro, and three NFL stars: Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, and Donald Driver. The second place finisher from Driver’s season, Katherine Jenkins, will also dance, even though she’s currently four months pregnant.

According to Glamour, the show’s opening number will feature a whopping 46 dancers, and there will also be a special football-inspired number starring the three NFL stars above, as well as Kurt Warner, Jacoby Jones, Michael Irvin, and Jerry Rice. Derek Hough and Mark Ballas were supposed to perform a special bromance dance together, but a recent toe injury might keep Derek on the sidelines. Next week’s double elimination has been pushed back to May 5 because of the special.

The 10th anniversary special will take a look back at fans’ favorite moments from Dancing with the Star‘s 20 seasons, and there’s a high likelihood that more than one of them will feature Maksim Chermkovskiy and Olympian ice dancer Meryl Davis. They don’t just stand out from DWTS‘ previous competitors because of their abilities — some viewers still believe in the couple’s epic “showmance.” Shortly after his Season 18 win, Maksim talked to TV Guide about his very real feelings for his partner.

“I think the show never had a couple like Meryl and me… Nobody, I think, came close to Meryl and me, just by sheer passion. That passion, that togetherness and that look in each other’s eyes — yes, some of it was necessary for the dances to be what they needed to be from a performance standpoint. Most of it was coming from a very real spot. We connected right away and it was extremely creative.”

Chmerkovskiy also told TV Guide that his relationship with Meryl Davis was “going to go beyond Dancing with the Stars for sure,” and he wasn’t lying — according to People, Maks and Meryl will perform together again on June 5 and June 6. Maks has recruited Meryl for his SWAY: A Dance Trilogy show in NYC.

“I can’t stay away,” Maksim told People.

Unfortunately for Maks and Meryl shippers, Maks said that he and his former dance partner are still just “dear friends.” As the Inquisitr previously reported, Maksim is likely dating fellow DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd.
