‘Eye Candy’ Canceled, Petition Claims Victoria Justice’s Show ‘Sexualized Violence Against Women’

With Eye Candy canceled, many fans are upset that Eye Candy Season 2 may never come out, but others may be celebrating the cancellation, since it was claimed that Victoria Justice’s show “sexualized violence against women.”

In a related report by the Inquisitr, an Eye Candy petition is hoping to gain enough signatures, so that MTV is forced to have a second thought about cancelling Eye Candy Season 2.

Way before MTV decided to have Eye Candy canceled, some people had started a petition calling for its cancellation immediately after Season 1 released. The main reason they cited is that the TV show allegedly glorified violence against women.

“MTV is releasing a new series entitled ‘Eye Candy’ which is basically about beautiful women being stalked, sexually assaulted, tortured, and slaughtered. In typical fashion MTV executives cast two women as the detectives tasked in solving the murders of these young women in an effort to somehow classify this as empowering towards women–which is ridiculous. The fact that women are the ones who catch the sexually charged murderers does not negate the negative consequences this type of media has on the attitudes young men develop towards rape and their likelihood of committing sexually violence offenses. It’s time we demand corporate responsibility and hold the media accountable for the ever decreasing moral decline of society. Are we really going to allow the ever increasing decline of morality continue down the depths into a bottomless abyss in the name of entertainment?”

MTV has not really explained why they had Eye Candy canceled, although you would presume it’s mostly based upon viewer ratings, not any controversy about what was depicted on screen. Regardless of any potential controversy, Victoria Justice’s Twitter account has been reaching out to fans ever since MTV made it official.

“Hi everyone! I wanted you guys to hear it from me first, that the cast and I received news that Eye Candy will not be returning for season 2. Even though a lot of you are going to feel sad/angry, please know that playing Lindy Sampson, is something that I loved and I will hold dear to my heart. I couldn’t have asked for better cast mates to work with either. They are the most down to earth, talented and kind souls that I am so happy to have met. Then there’s our show runner @Christiantwit1 who is so awesomely talented and made a show that I am so incredibly proud to be a part of…. Last but definitely not at all least, thank you to the amazing fans. I saw all of your WW trends (it might be 23 or 24 to date) and your unflinching support. It’s because of all of you that I get to do what I love. I am beyond grateful for that. It made me so happy that you embraced the show the way you did. I was so lucky to have you guys along for the ride, because you made it that much more exciting!”

The Eye Candy Season 2 petition is slowly building steam, with fans having added over 16,000 signatures so far. The original goal was only 15,000 signatures, so now they are waiting a little while longer in hopes of reaching 25,000 signatures.
