‘Real Housewives’ Star Kim Richards Distanced Herself From Recovery ‘Months Ago’
Real Housewives star Kim Richards reportedly abandoned her recovery program “months ago.” According to an April 21 report by Radar Online, friends claim Richards, a recovering alcoholic, hadn’t been attending AA meetings for a while, leading up to her April 16 arrest at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
“Kim was not working the AA program at all leading up to her arrest and relapse. She was not going to meetings, not working the steps and she was not hanging out with her sober friends, which is a huge part of what you need to do to stay sober. A lot of people thought she was secretly getting loaded.”
Throughout filming on the fifth season of the Real Housewives, Richards was seen acting questionable. Then, after admitting to taking one of her ex-husband’s prescription pain pills, her Real Housewives co-stars grew increasingly worried. Although Richards insisted she was sober, and in no need of support or assistance, her co-star, Lisa Rinna, had her doubts. Because of Rinna’s past, which includes a number of addicted family members, she took Richards’ behavior as signs of a possible relapse — and now it appears she had good reason.
Last Thursday, as the Inquisitr previously reported, the Real Housewives star was arrested and charged with public intoxication, resisting an officer, trespassing and battery on an officer.
According to a report by E! News, the Real Housewives star was dining at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge, where she enjoyed a number of cocktails before being cut off by the resident bartender, and refusing to come out of the bathroom.
After police arrived to remove Richards from the area, the Real Housewives star reportedly grew irate, and kicked a Beverly Hills police officer once she was in custody.
As the Radar Online source explained, Richards reportedly grew tired of her AA program in the months leading up to her controversial arrest, and because of that, no one was all too surprised to see the Real Housewives star taken into custody.
“Kim had said that she thought that she was way too busy for her program because she was a television star.”
“No one is surprised at all about her relapse. It is a clear example of how important it is to be honest and also a lesson on what happens if you keep secrets.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills concludes tonight with the series’ Unseen Moments special at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
