Heroes of the Storm, the multiplayer online battle arena title from Blizzard Entertainment, has been in development for quite some time. The invite-only alpha started in March of last year while closed beta began just months ago in January. Years before all of that, of course, Blizzard was working on the game, and today the developer announced a release date for Heroes of the Storm.
The game will release on June 2, according to the official Heroes of the Storm website. All interested players will be able to download and play the game for free starting on that date. Since Heroes of the Storm is currently in closed beta, players who have yet to try the game can look forward to the open beta. The open beta is dated for May 19, and there will be no more wipes before release.
Heroes of the Storm is primarily a team-based, player-versus-player arena game. Players choose from a number of heroes that level up individually while working on their account level in both co-operative matches against bots and those against other players. Daily missions and wins in co-operative and versus matches offer gold. That gold can be used to buy new heroes or even master skins for heroes of the appropriate level.
Currently, even those looking to play non-competitively can still work on their account albeit at a much slower rate. Practice mode lets a player choose his teammates against a team of bots. Although this offers no gold, daily missions can be completed in practice mode, giving that player a way to level up and earn a bit of gold without the stress of competition against real players. Of course, most players download a MOBA for the PVP. Hero League and Team League modes are also available, letting players climb the ranks in serious competition against other players in a solo queue or a group queue respectively. All of these modes and features will be available the day Heroes of the Storm launches, and there are plenty of heroes and battlegrounds to experience.
“Heroes of the Storm will launch with more than 30 playable Heroes, over 130 Skins, 14 steadfast mounts, and 7 dynamic Battlegrounds, each with unique challenges to overcome—and even more Heroes, Skins, Mounts, and Battlegrounds are on the way! Over the last year we’ve also implemented over 430 different color Tints across our Heroes, Skins, and Mounts to help you customize your look so you can brawl in style. These color options will continue to be unlockable for free as you play your Heroes and seek to master them on field of battle.”
The Inquisitr reported on the latest addition to the Heroes of the Storm roster last month. Sylvanas, the iconic World of Warcraft faction leader, is now available to battle in the Nexus. All players can enjoy her and the dozens of other heroes when the game launches on June 2.
