‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Cast: Meet The Three Main Newcomers
The three new Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast members were formally introduced today by director J.J. Abrams at the Star Wars Celebration panel, and the fans loved them.
But who are the actors who are on the verge of stardom, much like the original cast members were almost 40-years-ago? Most don’t know much about Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac, who are poised to launch their careers when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in December.
During the exciting Star Wars Celebration panel, Abrams and Lucasfilm President and producer Kathleen Kennedy shared some awesome new photos with the hundreds of fans that packed the room — and millions more watching online. They also introduced the three new main Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast members.
Daisy Ridley — Rey
First things first. Daisy Ridley clarified that Rey lives in the planet Jakku — which J.J. Abrams introduced on Wednesday — not Tatooine, contrary to previous reports. We finally got to hear who Ridley’s character is and where she comes from.
During the Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel, the new cast member excitedly described herself as a scavenger who lives in a ship graveyard (she is the one seen racing through the site at the beginning of the trailer). Rey is also self-sufficent and lived a solitary life, but “meets another character,” which changes her forever.
John Boyega — Finn
When we first met Finn in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, he looked in distress and today, John Boyega confirmed he plays a defector Stormtrooper. It was unclear in the teaser why Finn was sweating bullets, but Boyega revealed some of the back story to his character, after checking with Abrams, who gave him a funny look on stage.
Finn is a Stormtrooper and is in danger when he meets Rey at the shipyard. This event will change his life completely and “launches him into the Star Wars universe in a unique way,” according to the actor.
Oscar Isaac — Poe Dameron
Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast member Oscar Isaac was one excited guy during the panel Wednesday. We know he’s an X-Wing pilot, but we didn’t know much more than that. Isaac explains a few more details.
“He’s the best fricking pilot in the galaxy, that’s who he is,” Isaac said to loud fan cheers. “He’s been sent on a mission by a certain princess,” and his and Finn’s fates become “intertwined” forever during the film.
It was clear from their demeanor that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens new cast members were loving every minute of the panel and are anticipating fan reaction when the film finally opens December 17.
