Radio Stations And Advertisers Run Away From Rush Limbaugh’s Radio Show

Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” comment directed towards law student Sarah Fluke has left his talk show in peril as advertisers have continued to run away from the network while various radio stations who were syndicating his popular conservative program have also pulled their support.

On Monday both AOL and Tax Resolution Services joined a handful of advertisers who refuse to advertise on Limbaugh’s show amid various complaints from womens groups who have found his comments insulting.

Limbaugh came under fire when law student Sarah Fluke spoke out in support of President Obama’s requirement that religious organizations and their health care providers pay for birth control. During his attack he called Sarh Fluke a “slut” for supporting the President’s initiative.

Since his comments were made nine advertisers have jumped ship.

In the meantime a spokesman for KPUA AM, a radio station in Hilo said Limbaugh had “crossed a line.” That network added:

“We are strong believers in the First Amendment, but it has never been our goal to allow our station to be used for personal attacks and intolerance.”

Also yanking the Limbaugh radio program was WBEC in Pittsfield which said he had “gone too far.”

In the meantime Clear Channel Premiere Radio Networks standing by Limbaugh when they revealed:

“In an attempt at absurdist humor to illustrate his political point, Mr. Limbaugh used words that, unfortunately, distracted from the message.” Clear Channel then said he offered a “heartfelt” apology however that apology was only posted online and reached only a fraction of his national audience. Limbaugh’s comment has been called a “joke” by various outlets.

It’s unclear how much the gaffe will cost Clear Channel however Tax Resolution was paying some $9 million to advertise on Limbaugh’s program on an annual basis.

Do you think Clear Channel’s regard for calling women “sluts” is valid based on their reason for their support?
