BioShock Infinite gets a release date

Gamers have been hotly anticipating the release of BioShock Infinite ever since it was first shown off back in 2010, and now we know just when gamers will be able to get their hands on the finished product.

Irrational and 2K Games announced today that BioShock Infinite will make its way to retail on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 16 in North America. An international release will follow just a few days later on October 19.

“After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition,” said Ken Levine, Creative Director of Irrational Games. “BioShock Infinite has been our sole focus for the last four years, and we can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it.”

In BioShock Infinite, players will take on the role of Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent. Players will explore the sky-city of Columbia along with Elizabeth, which Irrational touts as being a “revolutionary AI companion”. Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite tells the events before the original BioShock, with the two getting caught up in a civil war between the Founders and Vox Populi.
