As usual, former NBA superstar and current courtside analyst Charles Barkley had something completely insane to say during a recent sports interview.
On Jim Rome’s radio show Wednesday, Barkley was talking about NBA fans and how some take it a bit too far when it comes to showing support for their favorite teams.
“Fans man. They love their team and their player. They don’t want to hear any criticisms. They just want you to be 100 percent for their team period,” Barkley explained to Rome. “I think it’s only a small faction. I think 80 percent are great. 20 percent, I wish you could take them out back and just shoot them.”
Rome responded to Barkely’s over top rant by offering the analyst an out, saying: “well, maybe not shoot them, Chuck.”
Barkley instead just reloaded and fired back:
“No, I meant that Jim,” he said. Eighty percent of the fans are fantastic. But 20 percent of them are so mean-spirited and say the most nasty things to you, because they know you can’t grab them.”
Larry Brown Sports points out that this is not the first time Barkley has used the “they need to be shot” line on the radio, but last time it was probably slightly better received.
While Charles Barkley – who has made it clear in the past that he has no intention of being a role model – has every right to feel sorry certain fans (specifically those who prioritize their sports teams over everything else in their life), wanting to inflict harm on them is another story altogether.
Would you agree that Charles Barkley’s comments on shooting NBA fans were a little too harsh?
