Derick Dillard Already A Great Dad, Praises ’19 Kids’ Wife Jill Duggar

19 Kids and Counting stars Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard welcomed baby Israel David earlier this week, and it seems that they’re already excitedly settling into parenthood. Fans won’t be surprised to hear that, as Jill and Derick have pretty easily settled into all of their other big life changes over the course of this past year. Jill now shares that Derick is already an amazing dad, which will come as no surprise to the couple’s fans.

As was previously reported by the Inquisitr, Jill Duggar Dillard had baby Israel David late Monday night. He weighed nine pounds, 10 ounces and was a whopping 23 inches long. 19 Kids and Counting fans know at this point that Israel’s delivery didn’t go quite as planned, as Jill and Derick had hoped to have a home birth. Instead, however, the baby made his first appearance in the hospital.

People reports that Derick is already throwing himself fully into fatherhood, and it seems he’s picking things up quickly. While Jill, of course, grew up used to helping with all of her 19 Kids and Counting younger siblings, Derick has had a bit less experience in the kid-handling department. Luckily, it seems he’s adapting just fine.

Jill says that Derick is “doing amazing at being a dad,” and he even gave the baby his first bath. It seems that Derick is already an expert at burping little Israel, and he was tasked with handling the first diaper change a couple of hours after Israel’s late-night birth as well.

While the Dillards haven’t shared the full story of their baby’s birth yet, there’s been a lot of speculation that she may have ended up needing a Cesarean section. Hearing all that Derick has already been doing for Israel, including giving him his first bath, may seem to reinforce the idea that ultimately Jill may have needed to go the route of a C-section.

For his part, Derick admits that he has been experiencing a “really steep learning curve,” but he thinks he’s “catching on fast.” It’s been a busy week, and the 19 Kids and Counting star does admit that he’s feeling pretty exhausted at the moment.

The day after Israel David’s birth, Jill and Derick shared a video announcing his arrival. The “Duggar Family Official” page shared the video and both Jill and Derick were full of smiles as they introduced Israel.

Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long to learn all about Israel David Dillard’s arrival. TLC is airing a two-hour special featuring Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar Dillard’s experience, and the air date is right around the corner. The 19 Kids and Counting special airs on Tuesday, May 5, and fans cannot wait to see how it all played out.
