Ronda Rousey Plans ‘Revenge’ Against Wal-Mart After Her ‘Too Violent’ Memoir Was Banned

After Wal-Mart decided the memoir of the undefeated UFC champion Ronda Rousey was too violent to sell on the shelves, there was a major outcry from the fans that the retailer was exercising excessive censorship. Ronda Rousey was silent on the issue herself until yesterday, when she took to her Instagram page to land a blow against Wal-Mart and their decision not to sell her book.

According to the Washington Post, Rousey has decided the best route to take in response to Wal-Mart is revenge. But not a violent form of vengeance. Ronda Rousey believes the best way to show Wal-Mart they were wrong is to ensure the memoir My Fight/Your Fight is massively successful without their help. Ronda shared the Instagram photo below with a fearless caption to go with it.

“‘Success is the best revenge’ one of many lessons I learned from fighting that helped me fight through life’s battles off the mat and outside the octagon,” Ronda Rousey captioned her photo. “@walmart is welcome to watch the success of this publication from the sidelines if they choose.”

Ronda Rousey also made a point to publicly thank the book retailer that did dare to sell her memoir, Barnes and Noble. Rousey used a second Instagram post published today (Thursday) to say that Barnes and Noble is fighting in “her corner,” implying that Wal-Mart is against her.

“Thank you Barnes & Noble for being in my corner since day one.”

Wal-Mart has failed to provide a good explanation for why they banned Ronda Rousey’s memoir. However, they did start selling My Fight/Your Fight via their online store to see how Wal-Mart customers react to the violent nature of the book. According to Jezebel, a spokesman for the retailer defended the decision without providing any real explanations.

“There’s a variety of factors that we look at when determining what items to offer our customers,” said Danit Marquadt. “At this point we’ve chosen to offer this particular title to our customers online. We’ll continue to watch how customers respond.”

When Jezebel asked if it was the content of Ronda Rousey’s book that caused them not to sell it, Marquadt insisted she had no further comment.

“I’ve shared with you what I have to share,” said the spokesperson. “In terms of the factors that we look at, there are a lot of different factors that we look at when determining what items to offer our customers.”
