According to People magazine, Barry Manilow reportedly married his longtime manager, Garry Kief, last year. The pair allegedly wed in a private ceremony in front of 20-30 guests at Manilow’s multi-million dollar home in Palm Springs, California. The guests were told they were invited to lunch. Soon they realized they had been invited to a wedding instead. A friend of both men said the wedding was a surprise to all the guests.
Manilow, whose real name is Barry Alan Pincus, is an American singer-songwriter and producer. He is best known for such recordings as “Mandy,” “Can’t Smile Without You,”and “Copacabana.” The well-known singer has not confirmed the marriage to Kief, who has served as president of Barry Manilow Productions and Stiuletto Entertainment Group since April 1981.
Kief has produced television specials and documentaries for Manilow. He has also managed the careers of other celebrities, as well as producing live entertainment for cruise ships.
CBS News reported that Manilow has often said he keeps quiet about his private and personal life. He once said in an interview, “I am a private guy. You can only come into my world if I invite you in. From the very beginning that was the rule.”
It was reported that the couple agreed to keep the wedding private and didn’t sign any official papers. The entertainer was concerned that his millions of female fans around the world would not approve of his union with a man. He married Kief because the singer said he is in a great place with his career and his personal life, and he really doesn’t care what people think. Besides, he is in love and happy with someone who was been there for him many years. Kief, 66, and Manilow, 71, have been together for more than 30 years.
Manilow and Kief wear wedding bands and are committed to each other. People knew Kief was more than just Manilow’s business manager. Even though they suspected they were in a relationship, they were still surprised to hear reports that the two men had actually gotten married. Fans still love the “Mandy” singer and enjoy his music, and say they will continue to support him.
