Tyler Baltierra Talks ‘Power Struggle’ With Carly’s Adoptive Parents
Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell rose to fame after appearing on the hit MTV show 16 and Pregnant. Although they have not been the only couple from the show to choose adoption, they were the first and their story has been chronicled for years on Teen Mom.
The couple opted for an open adoption, which would allow them to remain a part of their daughter’s life. While they have had the option to visit with her annually and also receive updates and photos of the little girl, the one thing that they have been asked not to do is share photos of Carly online. It may seem silly to some, but Catelynn and Tyler have a large fan base and when they share photos, they aren’t viewed by simply a few close friends and family, but by an entire legion of fans.
On the most recent episode of Teen Mom, Tyler Baltierra created a video of photos with Carly and posted them online. Catelyn Lowell was not happy about the posting of the video, noting that she didn’t want to upset Carly’s adoptive parents, according to MTV News.
“I didn’t want to jeopardize our relationship with them and Carly. I think that was my biggest thing because they told us so many times not to post pictures.”
Not everyone fully understood why Tyler Baltierra would post the video, knowing that it could damage the relationship he and Cate have with Carly’s adoptive parents. He, too, spoke to MTV about his feelings and opened up about the “power struggle.”
“I feel like with Brandon and Teresa and me, it’s more like a power struggle. Who’s got the power to make certain decisions. I completely understand that it is their child, they are raising her, the only thing that connects to me is biologically, which I get that. But the bottom line is you wouldn’t have the family you had if it wasn’t for me.”
Despite the explanation, some fans may still not fully understand his reasoning. However, he expressed that he posted the video to help fans understand adoption. It is true that the couple has helped to educate a lot of young people about adoption, showing them not only the benefits, but also the everlasting emotions that come along with making such a decision. Through everything, Cate and Ty have managed to make their relationship work, and despite recent rumors, the couple is still very much together, according to the Inquisitr.
With the new season of Teen Mom in full swing, fans will get to see more of Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell soon. In fact, a candid conversation between the young couple and Carly’s adoptive parents will appear on an upcoming episode of the show.
