The debate over what color Han Solo’s coat is in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back has finally been put to rest. So is it blue or brown?
In a Collider exclusive , the mystery is finally revealed when one of the costume designers talks about the famous coat Han Solo used during the second film of the original trilogy. Even though the smuggler had won millions of hearts in the first installment of the saga, Star Wars: A New Hope , many were still suspicious about where his loyalty lies.
But that all changed when, without regard of the inclement weather, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) puts on his heavy winter coat to go in search of his new friend, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is lost somewhere out there in the middle of a brutal snow storm, which gave way to this geeky debate.
Was Han Solo’s coat blue or brown? It seems the lighting in the studio made the color unclear, so much so that Hasbro put out a Han Solo action figure wearing a blue coat.
The newly revealed information is contained in the upcoming Star Wars: The Digital Movie Collection . Featured are several behind-the-scenes specials and additional bonus clips, which fans have not seen before.
In the special feature called Discoveries From Inside: Costumes Revealed , which examines all the costumes used by the main characters throughout both existing trilogies, we find the answer to the question of what color is Han Solo’s coat in Empire Strikes Back .
