Fans can watch the Mexico vs. Paraguay soccer match live online and see if El Tri can continue its strong play in international friendly matches or if Paraguay can pull off the upset.
Mexico just defeated Ecuador in what could be a Gold Cup preview, and now is taking on Paraguay in front of what will likely be a friendly crowd in Kansas City.
Start time for the match is 8 p.m. ET from Arrowhead Stadium.
Those who watch the Mexico vs. Paraguay soccer match live online will see soccer making its first return to Arrowhead Stadium, which last hosted a match between the Kansas City Wizards and Manchester United in 2010. That match drew the largest soccer crowd ever at Arrowhead (52,424), and Tuesday’s match could well beat that.
“We are extremely excited to have the Mexican National Team scheduled to play its first-ever match at Arrowhead Stadium,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. “We have put an emphasis on creating a sports and entertainment destination for fans of all ages, interests and backgrounds.”
Fans in Kansas City are excited for the match and plan to show up strong.
“Our goal is to bring (more than) 55,000 people to the game,” said Hector Manuel Solorio, a local fan, in an interview with the Kansas City Star. “After that, Kansas City is going to be in the eyes (of those) who might bring more games to the city.”
Raul Villegas, Solorios’ friend, explained a bit of the appeal of soccer in Mexico.
“We have two things in Mexico,” he says. “Religion and soccer. For us (seeing the Mexican national team) is like the Super Bowl, because they’re the best of the best. They’re bringing in European players that have actually played in the World Cup. That’s why it’s such a big thing.”
Those who do watch will see two teams that do not see the match as a simple exhibition. As the International Business Times noted, Mexico played hard against Ecuador and both teams are filled with top talent.
“Herrera selected his strongest lineup against Ecuador, and will be left with both encouragement and much to ponder from victory. Hernández’s goal and general performance demonstrated that he retains his sharpness, despite not starting a single game for Real Madrid in 2015. With Carlos Vela — ruled out with injury for these matches — now back in the international fold, there is strong competition for places up front. Against Paraguay, Atletico Madrid’s Raul Jimenez, another to get limited playing time this season, is set to get a chance to impress.”
