George Huguely Convicted In Yeardley Love Murder Case, Faces Up To 40 Years In Prison
Jury members in the Yeardley Love murder trial deliberated for nine hours on Wednesday before convicting George Huguely V with the college students murder. After handing down the conviction the jury was then left to consider Huguely’s sentence which could include up to 40 years in prison on the charge of murder.
The conviction comes just a short period of time after Love’s mother took the stand and told the jury, “Every single day is different…Some days it’s just unbearable.”
The trial lasted two weeks and centered around a 10 minute time period in Love’s apartment during the couple’s senior year at the University of Virginia. During that 10 minute time span Huguely kicked through Yeardley’s bedroom door and fought with her in a final attempt to save their relationship. Hours after the altercation in Yeardley Love’s bedroom her body was discovered.
The plaintiff painted George Huguely as a “stupid drunk” and “boy athlete” with rage issues who liked to control women and abuse her. While the 24-year-old LaCrosse player did not testify on his own behalf jurors did watch a videotaped statement he gave to police just after Love’s body was discovered on May 3, 2010.
In that statement Huguely admitted to shaking Love, grabbing her around the neck and wrestling her to the floor after she refused to talk with him. George also claimed that Yeardley banged her own head against the wall during the fight.
Do you think George Huguely deserves the full 40 year sentence considering his own admission of abuses against Yeardley Love?
