Detroit Children Found Dead In Freezer After Reportedly Being Missing For The Last Year, Mother Arrested

Two Detroit children were found dead in their family’s freezer, a gruesome discovery that led police to arrest the children’s mother.

Court officers went to the three-bedroom home on Tuesday to serve an eviction order, and as they were clearing the house found a bag inside of the freezer that held a human body. At first they thought it was the body of a woman, but later determined it was two small children.

Officials said the boy was about 11 and the girl, 14. The police have not yet determined how they died. By the time officials found the Detroit children dead in the freezer, their mother was gone, but some neighbors helped alert police to her whereabouts.

“One of the community members here… approached our officers and advised that they knew where the parent was located,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Police found the mother in a nearby apartment and arrested her. The woman’s name has not yet been released.

The 36-year-old mother reportedly sensed that police were closing in, said friend Carrie McDonald.

“She told me this morning, ‘Ms. Carrie, if you don’t never see me again just know that I love you,'” McDonald said. “I love her. The mother is a beautiful person. She was just going through some things.”

The mother arrested had reportedly lived at the apartment complex for 10 years, but recently got into money problems and was evicted. Court records show that she owed more than $2,000 to the apartment complex.

McDonald added that the woman had pulled her children from school and may have been paranoid about some harm coming to them.

“She took her kids out of school because she thought something was going to happen to them,” McDonald said.

This is not the first case of allegedly horrific acts involving a mother and child. In Cincinnati, a mother was arrested and accused of pimping out her 11-year-old daughter to her heroin dealer in exchange for drugs. Police said the woman dropped her young daughter off at her dealer’s house, where the girl was raped. The mother, April Corcoran, is also accused of giving heroin to her daughter.

It is unclear just how long the Detroit children found in the freezer had been dead. A neighbor, Tori Childs, said the pair used to play with her children but hadn’t been seen in “about a year.”
