Gal Gadot Responds To Criticism That She’s Too Skinny To Play Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot’s being cast as Wonder Woman has caused its fair share of controversy. When it comes to casting, comic book fans are notoriously picky about who plays their supers, and even more picky when it comes to who’s playing their female supers. Gal Gadot was not immune to such criticism. As the Inquisitr reported a couple weeks back, recent photos of Gadot have raised fear among fans that the actress is simply too skinny to play Wonder Woman.

Despite the rigorous training Gadot has been going through, it doesn’t seem to be enough to satisfy fans. So how has Gadot responded to this criticism? In an interview with Robot Underdog, she faces the criticism head-on (via Screen Rant).

“They said that I was too skinny and my boobs were too small [Laughs]… After they asked me here, in Israel, if I have eating disorders and why am I so skinny – they said my head was too big and my body was like a broomstick – I can take anything. It’s just empty talk. I understand that part of what I’m doing means being exposed. And part of being exposed is being under fire.

“When I was younger I would take criticism really hard. But now it mostly amuses me. The true amazons had one boob so it wouldn’t bother them in their archery. So it’s not going to be like real amazons. We always try to make everyone happy but we can’t.”

There is little question that the comic book movie genre is currently is a bit of a boy’s club (despite the sizable female fanbase), and that women have to face unapologetic scrutiny in order to be accepted.

Early on in Scarlett Johansson‘s being cast as Black Widow, she too faced a great amount of criticism, with fans saying she’d look “ridiculous” next to everyone else, that she didn’t have the right body type, and that she wasn’t Russian enough. Now, several years and three (almost four) movies later, she’s become a beloved and integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s hard to imagine anyone else taking on that role.

Will the same be said of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman after she’s spent some time alongside Batman and Superman? It’s truly impossible to say at this point, but the fact remains that her being cast is currently set in stone, so despite fan outcry, DC and Warner Bros. will be sticking to their guns.

Wonder Woman will be making her DC Cinematic Universe debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman. Are you looking forward to see her on the big screen? Let us know in the comments below.
