Nick Jonas Drops Iggy Azalea, But Why?

Earlier this week, Nick Jonas announced that he would no longer be a part of Iggy Azalaea’s upcoming tour, The Great Escape. Many fans who planned to go to an Azalea concert based solely on Jonas being an opening act, were of course disappointed. The real question that’s been circulating, however, is why?

According to E! Online, numerous speculations and rumors swirled about after Azalea’s tour was postponed, including gossip of low ticket sales and arguments between the musicians. However, Azalea’s record label, Def Jam Recordings, issued a statement that production issues are the cause of the delay. Azalaea’s tour, which was set to start this spring, will now start in September.

Regardless, postponing the tour didn’t fare well with Jonas, who, along with Tinashe, the other act slated to perform during The Great Escape tour, dropped out. It’s still unclear exactly why Nick Jonas decided to leave the tour, but Billboard reports that the pop singer plans to go solo this spring, headlining his own tour.

In the world of pop music, staying relevant is a crucial part of any artist’s success, more so if you’re a cute pop singer who used to be a part of a boy band. A six-month lapse may not seem like a long time. Yet, for fickle teen girls and sometimes even adults, in those few months alone, a new, shinier pop-star replacement may grab their attention more.

Although it’s speculative, Jonas’ departure may simply boil down to staying relevant, which requires being in the spotlight as much as possible. Living in the limelight reaches far across the pop music industry, including the superstar boy band One Direction, who have been touring non-stop, back-to-back, for over fours years.

Jonas probably has nothing to worry about as far as his die-hard fans are concerned, but ticket sales have been known to crumble fast when a pop artist takes a break, especially for boy bands and young, pop solo singers.

One thing that does seem certain is that Jonas currently has a large fan base that will definitely back him as he embarks on a solo tour. And according to Twitter responses, some fans feel that the “Jealous” singer is better off without Iggy Azalea.

Meanwhile, there are other plans in the works for Nick Jonas. On March 28, he will host the Nickelodeon’s 28th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards. Ironically, he’ll be joined on stage by Iggy Azalea, as well as the Australian band, 5 Seconds of Summer.
