Is Dev Patel Over Ex Freida Pinto?

Is Dev Patel over his ex-girlfriend, Freida Pinto? We don’t blame him if he isn’t. Patel and Pinto went out for nearly six years after sparks flew on the set of their 2008 smash hit, Slumdog Millionaire.

Although the couple split back in December, Dev still had kind words to say about the actress. While promoting his new film Chappie, he told E! that they were on still friendly terms. When he was asked why things were so normal between he and his ex, Dev said he wasn’t “Hollywood,” and then went on to say that “she’s a wonderful human.”

This isn’t the first time he spoke about Freida since they split. The actor told the Guardian that they were still close.

“We are incredibly close. She’s just a really generous, patient human being who has been one of the most impactful people on my life. A lot of my motivation has come from her, from being with her and knowing her.”

When he was asked why that chapter ended, he cut the journalist off, stating “no. I can’t, I’m sorry. I can’t say.” Additionally, he said he tries not to Google himself, saying that it’s “a very dangerous thing” and that his “confidence is very fragile.” He continued, “I wouldn’t dare play with it now because it’s so essential to what I do. I made the mistake of reading the papers early on, when we did Slumdog. It doesn’t matter what you do, it’s all ‘Ugh, he’s really ugly’. And it can really scar you, so I stay away from it.”

Back when the couple were dating, Pinto called Patel her soulmate in an interview with Your Tango.

“I don’t think anybody—not even family or friends—can understand what the two of us have been through. The paparazzi, for example, and not having privacy. He made a statement unknowingly once and he said, ‘Oh, she is like my soul mate,’ and we were not dating or anything back then, and it became this big hoopla. Like, ‘Oh my god! How could he have said that? What does that mean?’ But I guess he was right in a way; we are soul mates.”
