Sarah Michelle Gellar Takes On A ‘Star Wars’ Role

Sarah Michelle Gellar is already well known as a vampire slayer in the Joss Whedon universe, which has earned her a loyal following of fans. Now, she’s taking on a role that will garner a lot more attention in the world of geekdom, as a voice actor on the Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels.

Gellar hasn’t spoken about what the role is, exactly, but she caused quite a stir in the studio when she went in to lend her pipes to the show. Disney XD tweeted a photo of her at work with the caption, “Oh hey Sarah Michelle Gellar. You’re joining the cast of Star Wars Rebels in a recurring role for season 2? That’s cool. We’re not totally having a fan freakout moment or anything… ‪#‎JKWeTotallyAre.”

“We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true ‘Star Wars Rebels’ fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions,” said director Dave Filoni.

Gellar has had many successful roles over the course of her career, but Buffy is the one that comes to mind most often in association with her name, and she still has fond memories of the show. When asked during a Reddit AMA last year about whether she kept anything from the set, Sarah Michelle said there were a couple of things.

“Aside from her wardrobe? I think my favorite is that my makeup artist had made a special stake for me with a little bottle of holy water, and to this day I keep it by my bed,” Gellar admitted.

‬Gellar will be working alongside her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., on Star Wars Rebels. The actress spoke last year about some surgery he endured on his spine after he tweeted that he was “learning to walk again,” ribbing him a bit during a charity event in West Hollywood to benefit L.A. Family Housing. When asked where he was, Gellar got facetious.

“Oh my god, you mean Freddie that’s like, learning how to walk again?! My poor husband couldn’t make it. By the way, he was coming, he was in tears. He was like ‘I promised Bill and Scout they’re so good to me, I have to be there.’ But he’s just so tired,” she said.

Sarah Michelle Gellar will have a recurring role on Star Wars Rebels, although the character has not been released.
