Katey Sagal Finds A Home After ‘Sons Of Anarchy’, Cast In New FX Series

Katey Sagal has found a home after Sons Of Anarchy. The actress, who played bad momma Gemma on the FX hit, has found another show. Sagal’s husband, Kurt Sutter, who created Sons of Anarchy, is at the helm of the new show, as well.

According to People, Sagal and True Blood’s Stephen Moyer will play co-stars in the new series created by her husband. The FX series is a period piece called The Bastard Executioner and will revolve around a warrior knight, who is tired from war but is forced to go back in again under the power of King Edward I.

It’s not yet known who Sagal or Moyer will play, but it’s a pretty large cast. The Americans’ Matthew Rhys is set to guest star on the show, and the ensemble includes Kurt Sutter, Sam Spruell, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, and Sarah Sweeny.

Although we don’t know if FX plans to order the series beyond the pilot, it’s highly likely given the huge amount of success that Sons of Anarchy had while it was on the network.

While it was on the air, the show earned a Golden Globe thanks to Katey Sagal’s win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, and it won make-up awards via different smaller award shows.

So far, Sagal hasn’t released a statement about the new FX show, but she’s still plugging Sons of Anarchy.

The show managed a pretty large feat, as its finale pulled in 9.1 million viewers. At the time of its finale, Variety noted that not only was it the most watched episode of the series, but the last season was the most-watched season of any series ever in FX’s history of original programming.

At the time, John Landgraf, the CEO of FX Networks, said of the feat, “It’s a rare and remarkable accomplishment for a television show to generate its – and our channel’s – highest ratings in its final season. We thank (creator) Kurt Sutter and his team for an epic ride.”

Looks like the people at FX are willing to see if Sutter and his wife Katey Sagal can strike gold twice.
