Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles TE, Involved in DUI Crash

Pennsylvania State Police say Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek was one of five people involved in a DUI crash early Thursday morning. There were no injuries in the wreck.

According to ESPN, the accident occurred at 2:30am on a highway exit ramp near the Eagles’ stadium in south Philadelphia.

Police said Sean Glynn, the 35-year-old driver of the 2012 Audi A8L, was operating the vehicle too fast and spun out of control before smacking a concrete barrier with Celek as a passenger. Following the crash, Glynn was given a field sobriety test and supposedly failed. Police then charged him with driving under the influence.

Celek, who turned 27 on Wednesday, released a statement through the team saying he exhibited “extremely poor judgment.”

“I did not know that the person driving the car was over the legal limit, but that’s not an excuse. I put my life in danger and was in a vehicle that put other people’s lives in danger, and that’s just not the way I operate. It will not happen again,” he said in the statement, according to MyFoxPhilly.

The Eagles also released a statement of their own after the DUI crash, saying they were thankful that no one was hurt and adding that Celeck is not facing any legal charges.
