Twitter is often the fastest way to correct false rumors, and Emma Watson seems to know this. The former Harry Potter star used the social networking site to allay the gossip that she and Prince Harry are dating.
Last week, an Australian tabloid ran a story which speculated on the prospect that Emma Watson and Prince Harry, having been spotted together on numerous occasions, had become romantically involved, reported CNN. Nothing could be further from the truth, according to Ms. Watson.
“WORLD… Remember that little talk we had about not believing everything written in the media?!”
It was only a short time later that Emma felt compelled to respond to even more rumors, this time suggesting that Ms. Watson was “angling” to become the next princess. Her response was as endearing as it was straightforward.
Linking to a clip from 1995’s A Little Princess, Ms. Watson responded, “also… marrying a Prince is not a prerequisite for being a Princess.”
The clip quoted this line from the film, summing up Emma’s thoughts on the matter even more succinctly.
“I am a princess. All girls are; even if they live in tiny old attics, even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty or smart or young, they’re still princesses.”
It may be possible that Prince Harry feels more for her than even Watson realizes. The Australian tabloid’s article featured a quote from a source close to the prince, claiming that there was an attraction on Prince Harry’s behalf.
“Harry didn’t want her to feel like she was put on the spot. A party also shows he’s fun and not stuffy. He’s smitten — and it’s more than Emma’s looks.”
The Mirror, a U.K. magazine, reported that fans were generally displeased with the thought of the couple.
“Emma Watson gets to be a witch and potentially a princess. No way, pick one. You can’t have your horcruxes and a crown,” one fan tweeted.
“Rumour has it Emma Watson is dating Harry. Kinda sad though coz its Prince Harry Harry not Harry Potter. She’s really into ginger huh,” was tweeted by another fan.
The idea of Watson dating the prince did appeal to some fans.
“So apparently Emma Watson and Prince Harry are dating… PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE.”
“Oh man usually I don’t care… but if Emma Watson and Prince Harry are dating then my life has just been complete.”
Whether or not the possibility of a relationship between Emma Watson and Prince Harry appeals to fans or even to the prince himself seems irrelevant. It’s just not in the stars, as far as Ms. Watson is concerned.
It seems she may just be too busy for romance. Ms. Watson seems to have her plate full with her new initiative for gender equality, a cause she passionately supports.
