Ben Stiller Signs on to Direct, Star in ‘All Talk,’ Upcoming HBO Jewish Family Comedy Series

HBO recently announced that Ben Stiller is all set to direct, produce and star in the upcoming comedy pilot All Talk, a “politically, religiously, culturally, intellectually and sexually irreverent” show centering on a Jewish family based in Washington, DC.

In the announcement, HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo said of Stiller,

“Ben Stiller continues to be a major, multi-talented star because of his discerning ability to embrace creative and innovative projects – whatever the medium.”

Lombardo also added:

“We were enormously pleased that Ben responded to this extraordinary work from Jonathan Safran Foer.”

Foer, who penned the All Talk pilot, is best known for his novels Everything Is Illuminated (2002) and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2005). A film adaptation of the latter is expected to debut in cinemas later this year.

Digital Spy reports that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Scott Rudin will also executive produce alongside Stiller, Foer and Eli Bush and that Emmy winner Alan Alda is currently in talks to star opposite Stiller in the series.

Filming for the show is expected to begin sometime in mid-2012.

In addition to All Talk, Ben Stiller – best known for his roles in There’s Something About Mary, Zoolander, Dodgeball, and Meet the Parents – will next direct, produce and star in comedy remake The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
