Allison Williams Delays Wedding To Defend Dad Brian Williams And ‘Girls’ Nepotism Charges [Video]

Allison Williams is proud to be the daughter of Brian Williams, despite his fall from anchor chair glory. And although she’s put her wedding plans on hold to defend her dad, Allison wants to stand by his side and do what she can to restore him to what she believes is the news position he’s earned through the years, according to Us Weekly.

Famous both for her recent role in Peter Pan Live and in Girls, Allison discussed the future fate of her father. Although he repeatedly scored high ratings as NBC Nightly News’ anchor, Brian currently is suspended without pay for six months after substantiated reports that he made errors in his commentary on his own experiences in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina. He also received some criticism for using his news anchor position to report on his daughter’s success, shown below.

“This has been a really hard time,” admitted Allison. “We have also been very lucky, counting our blessings. We have our health, we have each other. It’s been incredible to experience the outreach from people you love, family, friends, and then people we don’t even know, strangers, just reaching out saying we want him back on TV.”

However, Allison did make it clear she recognizes that the responsibility for accuracy is a key part of reporting the news.

“Obviously, toughest on my dad, who bears the full burden of responsibility for it, but one thing the experience has not done is shake my trust and belief in him as a man. He’s a really good man. He’s an honest man. He’s a truthful man. He has so much integrity. He cares so much about journalism. And yes, he’s a really good dad. I know you can trust him because, as any good daughter does, I’ve tested him on that.”

Turning to the subject of their daughter-dad bond, Allison confessed that she had been planning the wedding of her dreams to fiance Ricky Van Veen but suspended the planning to help her father.

“And then current events started happening and so that derailed it a little bit, but it has been this really beautiful throughline in our lives. It’s just something we haven’t focused on, but, spoiler alert, we are excited!” Allison revealed about her march-down-the-aisle anticipation.

Instead of her wedding, the daughter of Brian Williams is just focusing on waiting out the suspension, reported CNN.

“My dad has always been there for us 100 percent of the time, even sometimes before we knew we needed him,” said Allison firmly. “And so this, to be here for him, is the least we can do.”

As the Inquisitr reported, Allison has survived her own share of criticism after taking on the role of Peter Pan in NBC’s live broadcast. Just as when Carrie Underwood starred in Sound of Music Live, Allison suffered from those who wanted to “hate-watch” her portrayal of the boy who didn’t want to grow up.

In addition, Allison’s achievements in getting hired both on Girls and Peter Pan Live were attacked by some as nepotism, according to the Daily Dot.

Initially hired for Girls as a new college graduate, Williams was viewed as chosen based on her father’s fame. The Peter Pan Live role added a nail to the nepotism coffin accusations that soared on Twitter.
