WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has been getting a lot of boos lately. Most of them happened at the Royal Rumble in Philadelphia, but even after the event, the negative reaction continued to follow him all across the country. Some places are worse than others, but at the end of the day he is getting booed as a babyface. Unlike John Cena, Reigns is not proving he is a draw yet. Regardless of the boos Cena brings in, he also puts butts in the seats. He is beloved by women and children as well.
However, Reigns is not going over as well as WWE hoped he would with that audience. At least, not enough to make a significant push for him to be a top guy. With Cena, that lane was clear. With Reigns, it is a shot in the dark. So it should come as no surprise that WWE is attempting to change up Reigns character a bit to help him along with taking advantage of the fan’s current hate.
According to Cageside Seats, WWE has been writing in material for Reigns to come off a bit heel-like. Obviously, he has not gone full fledged heel yet, but at WWE Fast Lane he will be getting the boos to Daniel Bryan’s cheers. Unlike Reigns, Bryan is universally loved. Men, women, and children all seem to like him. Like all others, he does have his detractors. However, he has far less than Reigns.
This is the biggest reason that WWE is potentially changing the WrestleMania 31 main event from Roman Reigns/Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to a triple threat involving Daniel Bryan.
The idea would be to have Daniel Bryan go over at WWE Fast Lane, then Reigns would most likely go heel and make his way back into the main event to force a triple threat. Contractually, he is the Royal Rumble winner. That means that he has to be in a World Title match.
That said, the WWE would be changing the last few WrestleMania main events due to picking a bad winner two years in a row. While Daniel Bryan won last year, Reigns would be expected to win this year regardless of how many men are in the match.
WWE has been trying out the heel role for Reigns, which pretty much tells us that Bryan will go over him at WWE Fast Lane. Cageside Seats also reports that on WWE RAW, Reigns played up a heel role during commercials. The idea was to see how the live crowd reacted to it. Basically, WWE is trying it out to see how fans react and determine if it’s a possible route to take with Reigns.
Most imagine that it would be, considering Reigns is already getting boos here and there. The idea most likely will be for Roman to be the heel going into the triple threat match with Bryan being the face and Lesnar being the tweener. Lesnar has been getting cheered along with Heyman for some time now, especially at the Royal Rumble PPV.
That said, most would expect Reigns to run with his heel role soon. It does make sense to have him go this route as WWE is low on big time heels at this point.
