'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Movie Makes $30.2M On Friday, Eyes $158M Weekend Amid Scathing Reviews

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie is certainly the talk of plenty of towns on Valentine's Day and the entire holiday weekend.

A Friday box office total of $30.2 million Fifty Shades of Grey is being reported by Forbes, with the sexy thriller knocking The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water down the list. However, the SpongeBob movie could hit $100 million with kids out of school on Monday, reports Deadline, a Hollywood website that puts the Fifty Shades Of Grey total four-day weekend box office take at close to $158 million. That total rivals Passion of the Christ from 2004, which reigns as the top-grossing weekend opening movie in February of that year with an $83.8 million box office take. Fifty Shades could hit $158 million once all the overseas numbers are tallied as well for the weekend, reports Deadline‎.

All this Fifty Shades of Grey hoopla for a trilogy of books that were roundly devoured and roundly panned, and now a movie that's experiencing the same phenomena. Add in the fact that it's Valentine's Weekend, there's a huge snowstorm afoot in some portions of the country, and the Fifty Shades of Grey $30.244 million earning Friday debut -- which includes $8.6 million worth of early screenings of Fifty Shades of Grey Thursday previews, as reported by the Inquisitr -- and the huge box office draw for Fifty Shades of Grey is certainly interesting to behold. Last week, the Fifty Shades of Grey pre-ticket sales were strong towards the potential $60 million predicted opening weekend -- estimates that have grown considerably now that Friday numbers have been tallied.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie isn't winning over everyone, despite its huge box office numbers. Fifty Shades Of Grey is being called abusive, reports Forbes‎, and Madonna has famously called Fifty Shades of Grey not very sexy. Despite the Material Girl's views, the movie is certainly increasing sex toy sales, says the New York Post‎. Other bad reviews of the film are appearing online, with folks claiming the sex scenes aren't that shocking for a BDSM movie.
