The Evil Dead series has had an unusual timeline for a cult film series. It had The Evil Dead with a very young, unheard of Bruce Campbell heading to a cabin in the woods with his girlfriend and buddies, only to find an evil Book of the Dead and other evil things. Then Evil Dead 2 was released. It had an older, now slightly more well-known Bruce Campbell, and his friends, the woods, and the Book of the Dead.
A true sequel, Army of Darkness, finally saw Bruce Campbell’s character out of the woods and in a different setting. Time went on, Bruce Campbell got more known and older, but no third installment. It was then teased for what fans might have seen as forever.
Then, as the Inquisitr reported, the an Evil Dead TV series was finally announced. So, needless to say, fans of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead series were beyond thrilled. However, fans were left with nothing more than a potential release in 2015.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the first details on the plot and an announcement of Campbell’s co-stars has finally been released. Surprisingly, unlike the other three story lines, Bruce Campbell’s Ash will not be working alone against the Evil Dead-ites. However, you might not have predicted his co-deadite slayers.
Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo will star as Ashley J. Williams’ young sidekicks to face off against the Evil Dead-ites in 2015. Santiago is known for Bad Judge, Raising Hope, and Dexter. DeLorenzo has starred in Sullivan & Son, Workaholics, 2 Broke Girls, and Californication.
Apparently, the plot will take place 30 year after Bruce Campbell’s Ash faced off against the Army of Darkness in medieval times. According to the plot details, Ashley has not been doing much since then.
“Campbell reprises his role as Ash, the aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal.”
His much younger partners’ characters have names and descriptions that were finally released, Dread Central reported. Ray Santiago will play Pablo Simon Bolivar, who is described as an “idealistic immigrant” and “loyal sidekick” to Bruce Campbell’s Ash. He is his “Don Quixote,” and believes Ash is a hero, even he does not.
Dana DeLorenzo plays Kelly Maxwell, a “moody wild child trying to outrun her past.” She is “reluctantly dragged into the fight” against the deadites. She feels Ash and Pablo are family, but a “different kind of family”.
Ash vs. Evil Dead is to be filmed in New Zealand and premieres later this year on Starz, which could end up being for the Fall.
