Hip hop artist and food blogger Bun B can add professor to his resume now that the rapper is teaching class at Rice University of Houston, Texas.
The other half of the rap duo UnderGround Kingz, or UGK, will be teaching “a course on religion and hip-hop culture this fall,” according to the Urban Daily.

“This class offers the opportunity to explore the connections between religion and hip-hop in ways that open us in seeing our world differently,” said Professor Bun B.
The rapper’s co-professor will be Religious Studies Professor Anthony Pinn. However, this is not the first time the two have taught the class. The rapper will be taking his course to the web this time, though.
Pinn stated, “Our classroom course at Rice went so well that people off campus were contacting us and asking us about the course and how they could take it… Working with Bun in the classroom, it became clear that there were ways of learning and teaching that we hadn’t tapped. The MOOC gave us a way to be even more creative and innovative in terms of how we link the rest of world with the cultural richness and diversity of Houston to get information across.”
The course Bun and Pinn are teaching is called “RELI157x.”
What exactly is the course content? According to the Chron, the rapper will ask and help students answer, “What is religion? What is hip-hop? Are they the same thing? Do they overlap?”
The rapper and his co-teacher “expect students to be open to the possibility of hip-hop as a language through which complex questions are presented, explored and interpreted.”
The rapper has put together some great resources for students, including a “mix of videos, readings, music, images, stories” and, of course, “insider perspectives.”
Want to be a part of Bun B’s course? Enrollment is open now, and the six week course starts on March 24.
Think that this is going to be an easy course? Think twice. You can expect to spend “2-5 hours per week” completing the lessons and coursework.
Many people are excited about the chance to take Bun B’s class, sharing their support online, even saying “#BunBForPresident.”

Bun B might not be running for president anytime soon, but the rapper teaching class at Rice University is a great step forward.
