The winner of The Voice, Craig Wayne Boyd, has reportedly written a song about his time on the show.
Wayne Boyd won The Voice in Season 7, and during an interview with Rolling Stone Country, via Music Times, Boyd discussed his upcoming new album, and the tracks that will be on it.
Boyd admitted that he wrote one of the songs from the album while he was still appearing on The Voice. He added that he took huge inspiration from his time working alongside both Blake Shelton, who was his original mentor, as well as Gwen Stefani, who “stole” Boyd from her fellow judge.
In the merry-go-round that is The Voice, Shelton would then go on to steal Boyd back from Stefani just a few weeks later. This was after the singer lost the Knockout Rounds.
Blake Shelton admitted that he was inspired to write one of his songs because of the emotional turmoil that he was experiencing while on the program.
“The last song that I wrote was the last week on The Voice. It’s funny, I was walking around the set as [the number of finalists] got smaller and smaller — it was down to five of us — and people would say, ‘Hey, it’s Craig Wayne Boyd!’ And I’d say, ‘Yep, I’m still [here]!’ So I wrote a story of my musical journey up to this point.”
During his in-depth discussion with Rolling Stone Country, Craig Wayne Boyd also discussed how he had worked tirelessly to become an “overnight success.”
Wayne Boyd’s journey to becoming a pop star was quite an arduous one. Back in 2004, Boyd started to generate interest in Nashville. He then signed a publishing deal and started playing in the dozens of bars that populate the city. Then, in 2008, he released his self-titled debut album, which he then followed with another record in 2012.
However, Wayne Boyd only gained nationwide notoriety after he appeared on The Voice in 2014, and he’s now declared that he doesn’t regret any of the choices he has made throughout his career.
“I’ve worked my butt off for eleven years to become the overnight success that I am. But I don’t know if you’d call it success yet. Every day, something new happens.”
Craig Wayne Boyd recently saw his single, “My Baby’s Got A Smile On Her Face,” shoot straight to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, while he also recently played at the Grand Ole Opry, too.
