On a night that was set to begin the Road to WrestleMania 31, there were rumors galore over the past few weeks. On Sunday night, WWE presented the Royal Rumble and it would not only feature a huge Triple Threat for the WWE World Heavyweight Title but also the gigantic 30-man battle royal. Now, it’s time to check out the full recap and all the results from the 2015 Royal Rumble.
The pre-show began with a tag team match that was whittled down from a six-man tag earlier in the day. Xavier Woods from The New Day has been dealing with an injury so WWE held him out and took Adam Rose out of it too.
In the actual Rumble Match, The Miz was number one and R-Truth comes out in the second spot, and they pretty much spent all their time playing to the crowd. That was when Bubba Ray Dudley, aka Bully Ray, made his return to WWE and the crowd went insane.
Shortly after his elimination, the Wyatts (Erick Rowan, Bray Wyatt, and Luke Harper) squared off and Bray won out by eliminating both. That was when another surprise showed up with the return of the Boogeyman.
The match continued on with most of the surprise entrants being those currently on the roster, but Diamond Dallas Page did show up. As the match went on, the final four ended up being Big Show, Kane, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns. Ambrose was eliminated by the giants, but then Reigns took them both out.
Winner – Roman Reigns
After the match, Big Show and Kane went in the ring and destroyed Reigns until The Rock hit the ring and made the save. Then, Rusev hit the ring as he was never officially eliminated. Reigns hit a spear and dumped him to truly win it.
Brock Lesnar was shown backstage watching his opponent on TV, and in the ring, Rock and Reigns hugged it out. The Authority came out and just stared into the ring and then walked out.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match was as advertised. This was simply a match that you needed to see to appreciate. About 15 minutes in, Brock Lesnar was laid across the announcer’s table and Seth Rollins flew off the top rope with an elbow that knocked the big man out. John Cena and Rollins went back and forth in the ring with huge move after huge move.
As Rollins was about to get the pin, Lesnar woke up, entered the ring out of nowhere, and destroyed both challengers to his belt. Cena got sent outside and Rollins ate a huge F-5 as Lesnar retained. Brilliant match.
Winner and Still Champ – Brock Lesnar
Divas match. Not one of the better matches for the divas as it was a standard tag team match. There’s still no mention as to why the Bellas actually came back together and are friends/sisters again. Nikki hit Natalya with a forearm shot for the win.
Winners – The Bella Twins
Tag Team Title Match. The crowd was all about Mizdow and still can’t stand The Miz. This was not much more than the multiple matches we have seen between these teams before. Miz confused which Uso was the legal man and ended up getting splashed for the loss.
Winners and Still Champs – The Usos
Backstage, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are talking about the problem of Sting until Paul Heyman walked in. At that point, Heyman let them know how Brock Lesnar has always taken care of their problems and he can do the same with Sting, if need be.
Opening Tag Team Match. The Ascension got their first real test in the New Age Outlaws who honestly looked like they could still really go in the ring. The NAO had control for the majority of the match, but it got the best of them. Billy Gunn hit a tilt-a-whirl slam and set up Viktor for the Fameasser. Viktor made a blind tag to Konnor and they hit the Fall of Man for the pin.
Winners – The Ascension
Dark Match Opener. Adam Rose and the Rosebuds came out with Cesaro and Tyson Kidd even though he wasn’t in the match anymore. The Philadelphia (home of ECW) crowd was on the side of Kidd and Cesaro immediately. It was a good back and forth match, but the finish came with Rose causing a distraction and Cesaro nailing Kofi Kingston with a European uppercut which led to a big suplex from Kidd for the pin.
Winners – Cesaro and Tyson Kidd
This year’s Royal Rumble did not disappoint in any way, and it now leads the way to WrestleMania 31 with a stop at the debut of Fast Lane along the way. It’s going to be an interesting two months until the biggest event of the year, and anything can happen.
