Fox Confirms Talks Of ‘X-Files’ Reboot, ‘Prison Break’ Return, And ’24’ Without Kiefer Sutherland

Fox is hoping that the success stories from their past will be able to lead to more in the future as they are currently in talks for three big changes. The network has confirmed that they are in early talks to bring The X-Files back to television in a reboot of sorts, while also seeing a return of Prison Break, and a new 24 without Kiefer Sutherland aka Jack Bauer.

Perhaps the biggest of those three is the possible return of The X-Files, the science fiction television series that is still a cult classic today. IGN reported that Dana Walden and Gary Newman, co-chairmen and CEOs of FOX Television Group revealed the news at the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday. Walden wouldn’t say a whole lot about it.

“You know who we’re dealing with, do you think I can elaborate???” Walden laughed. “Gary and I both worked through the entire run of the X-Files. It was a great experience, we’ve maintained great relationships with creator Chris Carter, Gillian [Anderson], and David [Duchovny]. We’re very hopeful. It’s hard because they’re actors who are very busy. Chris has a lot going on. So it’s about finishing those conversations.”

Walden said they “would not move forward without Chris.” Now, how the reboot of The X-Files would work remains to be seen, but more should be known in the coming months. Next up on the slate is the possible return of Prison Break. Fox did not reveal a whole lot at all about this news bit, and they are skeptical, but interested.

“There is some speculation in the press about Prison Break, which honestly was slightly news to us,” Newman said. “Although we’ve made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Break back in a heartbeat. It’s probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great.”

Again, there is no telling how this return would work and if it would be with an entirely different cast or not. Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller are currently starring as recurring villains on The Flash which airs on The CW.

Last, but not least, Fox talked about the possibility of 24 continuing forward without Kiefer Sutherland’s character Jack Bauer, per USA Today. One of its most successful Fox shows ever, 24 made a return once already, but Sutherland already said last year he didn’t want to do any more episodes.

“My bones are creaking. What am I going to do, Jack Bauer in a walker? So, yeah, this is it. For me, it’s done.”

Now, Fox is thinking that might not be a bad idea. They’ve reportedly “heard a great pitch” from producers Evan Katz, Manny Coto, and Howard Gordon for a possible return sometime in 2016. Walden says they are “not that far along” but thinks it could happen.

Fox wants to succeed going forward and a reboot of The X-Files, a return of Prison Break, and a different version of 24 could be just what they need.
